the Preapennines mountains.
It is very rich in works of art, which enrich the village's
churches.
Height 388 m.
History
It is situated between the Esino and the Misa rivers valleys.
Its name Mons arcisruptaerecalls an
ancient fortress, built to defend a strategically important
village, whose ruins testimony its existence; today, on
these ruins rises the collegiate church of Montecarotto.
This fortress is surrounded by a rural agglomerate, which
became important in the XI-XII century. As become a castle,
it joined the rural area of Jesi (XIII century), together
with the other important centre, Cupramontana.
Although a considerable population decrease has been taking
place due to the abandoning of the fields, Montecarotto,
however, has developed and even qualified the typical vine
and wine production.
